To Heart - Remember My Memories 08

A couple of things: either animation got a lot better or because anything looks better after watching the thing called Negima. I’m also most likely, to my knowledge, the only english typing and speaking anime blogger still blogging To Heart - Remember My Memories while others have finished it or just gave up waiting for the subs. Go me!
Moving forward back to the main plotline of Multi and what it means to be a robot, Hiroyuki and Akari visit a university known for robotics engineering while doing some ghost-busting on the side. Hiroyuki finally makes a few decisions about his future that lead Akari to break her “happy” facade which ends with her crying and mad at Hiroyuki…
… and yes, I kid not about the ghost-busting part of the episode.

One thing I’ll forget to mention if I don’t say it now, since I didn’t find it that important, was at the beginning of the episode Ayaka and Serio are off to L.A with the crew wishing them well. Typical “fare-well” scene though it had its moment when Serio makes a verbal jab on Ayaka’s inability to keep a clean place. +1 for Serio!
The real heart of the episode revolves around Multi’s older sister, HMX-11 aka Feel who was the prototype in the creation of the emotions program that HMX series after the 11 series has. Apparently the emotion program was never a total success in Feel because of hardware limitations and the creator of the program (who’s name escapes me) dying an untimely death via car accident. Anyway, the climax comes in the form of Feel attempting to kill Multi with her for some reason or another (partially because Feel could never succeed in getting emotions, even though she tried) when the creator-girl’s ghost comes to possess Multi and tell how happy she is Feel was able to get an heart thanks to her or something. The professor dude goes on to explain to Feel and the rest of us that it was thanks to Feel and the creator of the emotion program that Multi was created; Multi’s OS was based on Feel’s, since all they had to overcome was hardware issues. Truly, Feel is Multi’s older sister!
Nice little ending with the ghost and Feel being “free” and Hiroyuki making the decision to apply to the university in hopes of improving the field of robotics (esp. Multi). Thought it was a little cute how Multi, teared up and apparently sad over Feel’s “death”, ask Hiroyuki in that Multi-kind-of-way if robots go to heaven too. It was just so moving for some reason! Props to Horie Yui for doing an excellent job conveying the scene and emotions so well
Just when I thought the staff would end on that happy notes of Hiroyuki deciding to go to college, the ghost “case” solved, and learing more about Multi (sort of) they decide to throw things slightly left field! When everyone is back home, Akari has finally had enough of Hiroyuki paying all his attention to Multi and with tears in her eyes, ask why can’t he look at her the same way! Ends with Akari running into her house before she completely breaks down and a speechless Hiroyuki totally clueless on what to do now.
I knew it was bound to happen eventually, since from the beginning one can tell there was going to be some tension with the whole Hiroyuki-Akari relationship but I didn’t think Akari would crack so soon. I figured another episode or two, then Akari would have just either bitchslapped Hiroyuki or made it clear to the other girls that he’s her property. Should be fun to watch how things will turn out (obviously we all know it will lead to an happy ending… that’s just how To Heart is) as things between Hiroyuki and Akari will be a little awkward, plus we’ll have to see if Akari decides to confront Multi about it (which seems most likely based on the preview for the next episode). I’m actually looking forward to the next episode of To Heart - Remember My Memories for once! Also helps that it’s going to be an onsen episode too!
… btw, you all see the cameo of some characters from To Heart 2?
