Comic Party Revolution 08

Comic Party Revolution spoofs Prince of Tennis and does a mighty fine job if I do say so myself.
Is a tennis tournament between friends really just friendly or are individuals’ ideals, hopes, and dreams riding on the line? What are a person’s limits in fighting for what they believe in against all the odds? What would a person do to accomplish victory? And most importantly, what happens when the main heroine and “sub”/hidden heroine wishes they were in each other’s shoes instead?

The girls are playing tennis as the episode starts with Chisa & Subaru versus Eimi & Yuu with Taishi as ref. Eimi is serving… she pulls off some weird showing serve that each time “confuses” Chisa. Eventually Subaru manages to return one of Eimi’s serve with her own “justice” technique. Yuu, not one to be left out, goes at it with her technique… Subaru and Chisa lose. Taishi notes Yuu and Eimi’s strong team but wonders what will Mizuki do as she looks on at the game.
Seems like Mizuki is mentally preparing herself or something when her partner Ikumi comes to see how things are going. Some random talking and Mizuki internally makes the decision to win… meanwhile Kazuki is in his apartment drawing…
Taishi is at it again with taking photos of his lovely idol Asahi as she and Aya prepare for their match against Ikumi and Mizuki. Asahi goes to hand shake Mizuki hoping they’ll play a fair and friendly game, but with Asahi’s burning passion in the background it’s kind of hard to believe. Right before the game starts, there are flashbacks of Asahi’s special training during her voice acting time while Aya watches from behind. Hand grip exercises while studying lines, balance training while voicing, and weighed voice scripts to help improve strength all lead to a confident Asahi and a teary eyed Aya. The results of the match however? Mizuki & Ikumi win much to the shock of Asahi. Mizuki goes over to say it was a good game and she hopes to play them again when Asahi notices the body spring restraints Mizuki has on. Aya idly comments about Mizuki’s restraints with Asahi also surprised she would do that… even Taishi has to admit Mizuki’s power… afar, the tall and fat otakus have been watching (and taking pictures) when an idea forms.
Match of Yuu & Eimi against Yuuka, Mayu, and Miho (Inoue, Echizen, Kaidou?) is going well for Yuu-Eimi as the other girls can’t coordinate an attack/defense plan. The Yuu-Eimi pair easily defeat the three girls (I felt bad for Mayu who seems to have lost it in the match) as Eimi and Yuu comment on their easy road to victory. Back at Kazuki’s, he’s working his way through his doujin stretching a bit…
Mizuki is now at the hospital as Ikumi has fallen ill(?) probably due to physical activity her body isn’t used to. Guy comes out a few moments later looking fearful as ever… and then goes to beg Mizuki on his hands and knees! Guy tells that if Ikumi goes back out to play she might not make it through or some other illness like BS, and with tears in his eyes ask Mizuki to stop Ikumi since she’s the only one who can do it. Mizuki is surprised in the least when Ikumi comes out telling them she wants to continue. Cue flashback of how Ikumi started playing… she never had much to do at the hospital but looking at the nearby tennis court where everyday Kazuki and “that person” (Mizuki) would play. Funny scenes of the two playing through the seasons with Kazuki suffering while Ikumi continues to narrate about Mizuki being the main heroine or something… Mizuki goes at one point to cheer Mizuki up (still in flashback mode mind you) as Ikumi learns tennis from her; crying tears of joy when Mizuki gives Ikumi her own tennis racket as a gift. End flashback… switch again to Kazuki’s where he idly comments how quiet it is today… random black cats cross the screen.
Ikumi and Mizuki are getting ready for their next match when Mizuki puts on one of her shoes and notices something. Turning it over, tons of tacks and other small pointing thingies come out. Obviously someone doesn’t want her to play as her foot starts to bleed. Ikumi ask if anything is wrong while Mizuki downplays what has just happen and the two go off to their next match.
Everyone else is watching the match as it’s Ikumi-Mizuki versus Miyabi-Reiko (you don’t realize how long it took me to figure out that the blond girl was actually her). The match is heating up but the injury to Mizuki’s foot is taking its toll as she misses what otherwise should have been an easy hit. Reiko continues to dominate for a bit with some weird flowery serve (including talking differently) and Mizuki just cannot hit it back in time. Fat and tall otakus get Eimi’s attention (still in their tree costumes) as the two tell her of their successful plan to stop Mizuki. Now Mizuki is at half her power… Eimi can’t believe the two did it… I think they ask Eimi for a doujin-related favor since they “helped” her get victory. Unfortunately everyone else has overheard what the two guys did and among mad stares, Eimi tries to defend herself since she never told them to do anything. Things get worse as the two otakus put more fuel on the fire leading to a pissed “onee-san” (Miyabi) who takes off her glasses, goes super gold, and unleashing an red-card final attack! Yuu tells Taishi that her team drops out as winning that way doesn’t feel right at all. The current match resumes as Reiko does her weird serve again… Mizuki won’t be able to make it with her injuried foot… she sees the image of her coach as we flashback to all of Mizuki’s training in becoming the tennis pro she now is. Mizuki goes SEED MODE and breaks the restraints unleashing her full power! She easily catches up to the ball and returns it with burning passion, shocking everyone on court. The real match begins now.
It’s no contest as Mizuki and Ikumi win, thus winning the tournament. However, the matches aren’t over yet as Mizuki and Ikumi still have something to do… back once again at Kazuki’s, and he’s watching Card Master Peach… everyone is again watching the next match, wondering why those two must “fight” each other. The main heroine (Mizuki) versus the sick/sub/hidden heroine (Ikumi)… some funny comments from everyone else (Eimi saying she should be the one instead)… Ikumi goes on to say how jealous she is of Mizuki being the main heroine and if she wasn’t there, then Ikumi might have had a chance. Scenes from the actual game are shown and one has got to love Mizuki in the two piece
Mizuki understands Ikumi as she too is envious of Ikumi. Mizuki wanted to try being the ill/sub heroine for once as more scenes from the game are shown. The two are about to battle… but first the necessary transformation sequences… Card master Peach Mizuki goes to serve as Ikumi (not sure what she cosplayed as) is suddenly hit with her illness (I assume)…
A few days later, I guess, Mizuki is hauling Kazuki out as they have to pick up an gift for Ikumi and then later go shopping together. Eimi is hiding behind a corner asking who’s going to help do her math(?) homework now. Yuu comes in with her paper fan telling Eimi she should do it herself and that not much can be done about “losing” Kazuki for the day. Chisa is nearby asking Eimi about the costs for her new doujin. Even Asahi is there with a pair of tickets mentioning they’re just going to be wasted now. Aya is right behind Asahi kind of depressed saying next time she’ll definitely win for sure. The other girls come in asking what kind of competition they should do next… fighting… cooking… etc etc… something gets decided (Kaizuki’s name is mentioned here. I don’t know if as part of the prize or just as part of the contest name) with Taishi figuring out which ones will work? Ending scene has Ikumi back in the hospital looking out at a building saying next time she’ll definitely win for sure as the camera goes to boxing equipment next to her bed.
I have to admit I was a little iffy about this episode with its spoofing of Prince of Tennis. After watching though, I have to say it was overall pretty hilarious. From the varous l33t techniques to Kazuki’s “suffering” to Miyabi losing it to Mizuki’s seed mode to the in-line game scenes, all just had me laughing. Definitely a strange episode in terms of plot but then again, Comic Party is more pure in-jokes comedy than anything else. Now only if some of the girls actually had tennis court personalities similar to the crew of Prince of Tennis. Where’s the “MADA MADA DANE”!?
Next episode the group does a little real life counter-striking, so stay tune!
