Ichigo 100% OVA 02

The second OVA in the Ichigo 100% series roughly (and I use that term loosely) covers Junpei and co’s second year during their school festival. Throwing basically everything related to said event from the manga, the staff went original only keeping the introduction of Chinami (Ai Shimizu!) somewhat in tact.
If one can’t tell, I wasn’t really pleased with the OVA at all. I can sum it up in two sentences: Hilarious and wacky part where all the girls end up running away from various guys leaving Junpei to fend for himself. And Aya is half naked for the last 10 minutes for no real apparent reason.
… why the staff decided not to use the original manga storyline is beyone me, as all I can do is shake my head in disappointment in the horrible HORRIBLE treatment Ichigo 100% has had. I fear what the next OVA will be like if it follows in the footsteps of this OVA and the crappy TV series. Only if the people who worked on the Jump Festa OVA could have done the series instead…

Everyone is setting up for the upcoming school festival, and the film club is no exception. Instead of doing something… I don’t know, cool like in the manga where it was a movie theater with the girls as Charile’s Angels… they’re doing a stupid jungle cafe with really cheesy decorations. Yui and Tsukasa come to help out Junpei and crew but only leads to more antics when Chinami comes in running away from her “debt collectors.” Junpei gets the worse end as the fake boyfriend and the tailend of Satsuki’s anger after Chinami kisses him on the cheek to prove they’re an item. If that wasn’t enough, Satsuki’s “fanclub” of various sports club follow soon after demanding she help them all out… Tsukasa’s hardcore fans come next, adding Misuzu and Yui to their list… eventually Junpei is left by himself as all the girls have fled or are needed elsewhere. The other guys are a bit more realistic and with no one else helping, there’s just no way they’ll finish.
Junpei goes solo in trying to finish the preparations for the festival as it gets late in the night. To add salt to injury, the power suddenly goes out throughout most of the school. Somehow Junpei is still working when his angel finally arrives in the form of Aya back from the Literature club. The two get some work done before the usual chaos occurs… they end up stuck together ala earlier in the manga in the gym storage closet. Aya’s inocence… Junpei’s feelings and perversions… Junpei almost gets some good loving until the “cave” the two were trapped in falls apart. All is good right?
… wrong. More antics with Junpei tripping into the ONLY body of water in their classroom, with Aya following soon after (minus skirt). Some striptease action from Junpei doesn’t go well with Aya, but eventually all is good. That is, until everyone else comes back only to find Junpei in his boxers and Aya half naked. Divine punishment in the form of Komiyama and Satsuki with Sotomura recording everything ensures Junpei will never ever forget this night…
The next day, seems like the crew has somehow made it for the school festival changing their jungle cafe into some weird cafe featuring Junpei’s embarrassing night and with him as main attraction in a cage (like a dog). All well that ends well right…?
OVA special ending sequence, by the way, with a lot of crayon-style drawn Aya using her character song “JINK WHITE” thankfully sung by the lovely Mamiko Noto. Truly one of the only few good things about this crappy OVA…
Minus the first few minutes of the episode where Chinami (Ai Shimizu rocks as is becoming the norm) is introduced, the second OVA for Ichigo 100% was a total disappointment. Animation better than the TV series but still failing because of the same varying quality plus going original left a really bad taste in my mouth while watching. The staff had over 15 volumes of source material they could use and they decide to go original?! WHAT. THE. FUCK. WERE. THEY. THINKING.

We’re doomed… I give up on there being a really good anime version of the manga.
