To Heart - Remember My Memories 09

Hiroyuki and Akari go on a “break” as Akari starts to question what exactly she is to Hiroyuki ever since he’s been spending time with his sextoy Multi. In between the two lovebird’s awkward moments, we learn more about Feel (the previous maid robot before Multi) and her creator via the creator’s ex-boyfriend (who’s ironically the professor’s relative). A lot of similarities are drawn between Feel and Multi and the situation Hiroyuki is currently in; some advice by the ex-boyfriend only makes Hiroyuki ponder his problems more.

Since Akari and Hiroyuki are too stubborn to make up with lots of sex, Akari pretty much avoids him and Multi when they all coincidentally lodge at the same hotel. Hiroyuki takes part of his frustation out on Multi leaving her to her lonesome but ever the faithful robot, does her best to make Hiroyuki satisfied anyways. Later the same night, after a heated discussion with Akari about their relationship, Hiroyuki gets another bomb as Multi readily admits her happiness is dependent on making him happy.

The love triangle continues with Akari not accepting Hiroyuki’s divided attention while Multi just wants to please Hiroyuki any way possible. I’m telling you, they all just need a wild night of non-stop sex to clear the air and get their feelings straighten out. Sex can solve many problems you know?

A couple of things: either animation got a lot better or because anything looks better after watching the thing called Negima. I’m also most likely, to my knowledge, the only english typing and speaking anime blogger still blogging To Heart - Remember My Memories while others have finished it or just gave up waiting for the subs. Go me!

Moving forward back to the main plotline of Multi and what it means to be a robot, Hiroyuki and Akari visit a university known for robotics engineering while doing some ghost-busting on the side. Hiroyuki finally makes a few decisions about his future that lead Akari to break her “happy” facade which ends with her crying and mad at Hiroyuki…

… and yes, I kid not about the ghost-busting part of the episode.

More or less a Kotoe-Aoi centered episode, the series continues to focus on their secondary characters while leaving bits and pieces of its main Multi plot in the background.

Basically Aoi becomes famous around the school since her win against Ayaka and Kotone gets left out. Going the inner angst route (also after using her powers again to save Aoi), Kotone slowly distances herself from Aoi and eventually goes to Hiroyuki for “help.” Hiroyuki and Kotone go on a “date” that ends up with Kotone confessing to Hiroyuki that she loves him!

During the “date” and confession, we learn a lot more about Kotone. From how much she loves Aoi for being her friend to how she was before all that to loving Hiroyuki, Kotone’s character gets fleshed out here and now. I thought the results were okay, if maybe a bit rushed for those that do not know the To Heart charactesr in-depth (like myself) but works at the end. Anyway, typical Hiroyuki is slightly shocked that Kotone has a thing for him but has to deny any budding relationship (though he can’t straight forward say it’s because he has Akari), leaving Kotone sad but satisfied(?). She runs off after thanking Hiroyuki for everything, leaving him in his own thoughts about what just happened. Kotone eventually runs into Aoi, who like a true friend comforts Kotone in more ways than one.

As I mentioned earlier, it was a nice episode overall. The plot of how Kotone and Aoi view each other’s friendships and of Kotone confessing to Hiroyuki was nice. Even though Aoi is now “famous” she’s still the same as ever, and still needs (and wants) Kotone around as her reliable manager and friend. Because of Kotone’s somewhat low self-confidence stemming from her powers and how others view her, people like Aoi and Hiroyuki have been her saviors. Aoi in a form of a close friend while Hiroyuki the same but with some love interest too. It was somewhat thanks to Hiroyuki that Kotone was able to live on and become the person she is today, along the while falling for Hiroyuki. While it’s unfortunate the two could not get together (Kotone was so frickin’ adorable in this episode! Where’s the multiple choice options to say “yes”?!?!), I did admire her for continuing moving forward and telling her feelings. Thankfully Aoi will always be there for Kotone so while nothing more can happen with Hiroyuki, Kotone can rely on Aoi for support (and more). A pretty good ending to their stories in my opinion as we slowly move back towards Multi’s story.

Some hints were the whole Serio and Ayaka scene where the professor was checking up on the two androids. Conversation between Hiroyuki and Ayaka on the aspects on how they view Serio and Multi was somewhat interesting, what with Hiroyuki still thinking of them as totally human at times. Also the professor giving Hiroyuki some university advice to help further the cause with Multi was a good point, especially more so since it seem Hiroyuki hasn’t really talked about it with Akari. And poor poor Akari… still loves Hiroyuki and all but gets brushed aside for other things. Sucks even more when she accidently spies on Kotone and Hiroyuki, even hearing Kotone’s confession (though not the end results). If only Hiroyuki would get his act together and just frickin’ confess to Akari! Heck it looked like he wanted to talk to her at the end of the episode but the coward never got enough balls to call her…

It is so odd for the main protagonist to be good at many things but still fail the most important one(s). Hiroyuki seems like he can get any girl thanks to being an jack-of-all-trades and generally nice guy, but when his feelings are put on the field relating to Akari he’s an total wuss. Plus now with everyone coming for his help in one form or another, the relationship between him and Akari isn’t getting any better. I can foresee that when everything is said and done, he’ll have to choose between Multi and Akari. Of course he’s going to pick Akari but there’s probably going to be some complications in how this happens while still somehow choosing Multi to an lesser degree. I just know it! hehe.

Aya Hisakawa! Aya Hisakawa! W00t! Aya Hisakawa does an cameo as Tomoko Hoshina while the rest of the crew is in Koube to cheer Masashi (who will be now known as “the non-sucky Kira”) on for his Professional Soccer Try Outs. Also slight serious side with the earthquake that happened and the aftermaths of it; not with just rebuilding buildings but also family too (awww… Tomoko!). End of the episode touches on Hiroyuki and Akari “relationship” (or the lackthereof) and of the main story of Multi.

The episode wasn’t bad, I enjoyed it overall (though I do have a slight baises for Aya Hisakawa roles) but something felt off. Maybe because of the sudden seriousness it got, but I was expecting more of a light-hearted episode for some reason. Definitely did not expect Tomoko to suddenly appear nor for there to be actual movement in the Hiroyuki-Akari relationship department. And you got to love good old non-sucky Kira (Masashi) for being a true friend for trying to get to the root of the relationship problem and help out as best as he can. Good man.

The main highlight has to be without an doubt Tomoko. Good to see other “secondary” characters have screentime and I was pleased on how well they handled the seriousness of the Koube earthquake and whatnot. Also kind of funny that Tomoko was in this episode, as I just finished reading the To Heart manga a day before the episode was released, since she was one of the “main” characters devoted a chapter or two in the last volume. Weird huh?

Anyway, I fully expect the “Multi gets her full memories” to be back in full swing next episode based on how they ended this one: multiple pictures of Hiroyuki showing up on the laptop connected to Multi. Guess someone has Hiroyuki on the brain? Akari-Multi catfight in the future…? hmm…

In this episode of Hajime no Ippo…. er, To Heart - Remember My Memories the Ultimate Fighting Competition starts. I won’t ruin what happens (since the screencaps pretty much says it all), but I have to say that while watching this episode I kept thinking of Ippo the whole time. I was expecting to see Ippo’s trademark moves pop up any second, I swear!

Definite highlights were seeing Aoi and Ayaka in skintight wear, period! Probably since I’ve gotten used to the crappy animation, I enjoyed the visuals (aka skintight wear) of this episode a lot; plus the plot was half-way decent too. Nice to see some good old fighting in To Heart amiss Multi’s continuous attempts to understand human life (again). Now with the whole Aoi-Ayaka rivalry said and done, wonder what direction To Heart is going to go to? Hopefully, they’ll have more secondary characters stories while putting the whole “Multi lost her memories (sorta)” storyline in the background. ‘Cause otherwise, I can see myself getting really really bored with Hiroyuki & Akari helping out Multi just by re-living events from the first series -_-
